Beamshot of Quark XM-L and some other lights, August 2011

This collection of beamshots compares the new Quark XM-L to some other light.

The following lights are included (Same sequence as pictures): ThruNite Neutron 2A, 4Sevens Quark AA-2 (old), 4Sevens Quark X AA-2, 4Sevens Quark X 123-2 Tactical, Fenix LD25, Fenix TK21 U2, Fenix PD31, JetBeam BC20

A few notes:
The old Quark is a warm version.
All AA lights uses NiMH batteries.
TK21 and PD31 uses 18650 LiIon battery
123-2 and BC20 uses CR123 batteries.

BrightnessMax

This is the total light output measured with a ceiling bounce. The Quarks has a high output that no XP-G led can match and can nearly match the larger TK21.

Brightness

Many of these lights has 4 to 5 output settings with a large spread in brightness.

BrightnessLux

Here I have measured lux at 2 meters to get a estimate of throw. For throw the XP-G led is jsut as good as the XM-L led, until the XM-L led gets a larger reflector (TK21).

Weight

The CR123 batteries and smaller size does give a weight advantage to the 123-2 light. The larger TK21 light does also weight more.

Summary

In this table I have tried to collect the key features of each light. For the user interface I use the following abbreviations: TS: Tail switch, ESS: Electronic side switch, Head: Loosing/tighten the head is used in the ui.

Price

There is not much price difference, the two modes lights are cheaper and the larger light is more expensive.

Notes

Most of the small beamshot pictures can be clicked for a larger version. To compare beamshots, open the larger picture in different tabs, then switch between tabs to see the difference.
